Balal Arezou started playing for Afghanistan and in his second match after his debut, he scored his world cup goal against Palestine in 2014 FIFA World Cup qualification in Palestine which was assisted by Israfeel Kohistani. He scored 4 goals against Bhutan in the SAFF 2011 championship, he was Afghanistan's captain in that game. He was the 2nd leading scorer behind Sunil Chhetri in the SAFF championship 2011, with 6 goals in 5 games.
